Homes & Businesses in Spencer Destroyed by Major Flooding

Hundreds of homes and businesses in Spencer, Iowa were inundated with floodwater from the Little Sioux River on Saturday June 22nd. It is estimated that the flood impacted around 80% of the city’s homes causing many residents to evacuate and be rescued from the fast-rising water along with impacting around 30 percent of Spencer businesses. This devastating event has left many residents to seek temporary shelter.  
 

Now that the water has receded many families have very little to return to, trying to salvage what they can and rebuild their homes to pre-flood condition. Volunteers from all over came to lend a helping hand with donations, cleaning supplies, household items, clothing, food, and cleanup efforts. The love and support that has been shown to our community is truly heartwarming and inspiring. 

Our own facility was heavily affected by the flood which put us out of commission for a few days. When needed, SERVPRO® Disaster Recovery Team is called into action. Teams mobilized from across the country to assist northwest Iowa residents. SERVPRO of Spencer & Iowa Great Lakes is finishing up the reconstruction phase at our local facility. Although we have been working out of temporary locations, we have been able to assist customers with water extraction, cleaning and disinfecting, drying equipment, removal of damaged items, air duct & HVAC cleaning, and odor removal.
